It is almost time for our February meeting!
Look forward to seeing fellow Bookworms at Rozar Park on Feb. 7 at 10 a.m.
Happy reading!
Our next meeting is set for Nov. 1 at 10 a.m. at Rozar Park!
Hope to see you there!!!
I am sure we are all keeping our eyes on Tropical Storm Fay!
Will she visit our area?
I have an interesting book about weather folklore.
Here are a couple of gems from the book -
"Swallows fly high, clear blue sky;
Swallows fly low; rain we shall know."
"If a mule shakes his harness, it will rain soon."
"Ants that move their eggs and climb, rain is coming anytime."
Stay dry!!!
While there are several internet sites that offer entire books you can read at your leisure here is one that includes an audio service.
The computer generated voice is not as pleasant to the ear as a human voice, but I find it is enjoyable to listen while I am working on the computer!
The site is http://www.freebookstoread.com/
Happy reading!!
The Perry Bookworms second meeting was just as interesting as the first with an interesting talk by Olivia about The Mitford books and author Jan Karon.
We had much discussion about the series and the author including the beautiful area she resides - Blowing Rock, N.C.
Also, everyone shared what they have been reading during the past month.
There were several people we missed! We were glad to see Brenda and Joan join the group!
Our next meeting will be Sept. 6.
Plans are to discuss books about the lives of our favorite women authors.
Here is a website where you can browse through many images used in old books - http://www.oldbookart.com/
I have posted a drawing found in "Curfew Must Not Ring Tonight" by Rosa Hartwick Thorpe published in 1882.
Enjoy!

A living estate sale set to take place in the next few days reportedly has lots of great books that will be for sale!
The location is Hwy. 41 south in Pinehurst near Fullington Academy.
Dates are July 25-26 from 8 a.m. until 5 pm. and July 27 from 1 until 5 p.m.
Thanks to Jillinda Falen for sharing this bit of information!
When in the course of human events it becomes absolutely essential for women to have conversations about books, writers (and even bad movies), a little organization may be needed.
On July 12, 2008, the following women made Houston County history by talking about books non-stop for two hours. They met in the spacious kitchen of Landmark Realty to form Perry Bookworms.Present were: Becky Burnham, Cathy Goff, Charlotte Perkins, JoAnne Horrel, Emily Johnstone, Joyce Jones, Terry Everett, Olivia Stachorek,
Andrea Lasseter, Laurie Jones, Joy Skeen.
The name Perry Bookworms does NOT mean that you have to be from Perry to be in it. This is an open membership organization, except for the gender bias.
Founders Emily and Charlotte were quite happy with the great group that showed up and felt that we were making new friends on the spot. We are expecting several more at the August 2 meeting because summer vacations made starting in July sort of tricky. Those attending the first two meetings will be declared Charter Members.
HOWEVER, this club will be set up so that if you miss a meeting, you can just come back to the next one.
A blog has been set up by Emily Johnstone at perrybookworm.livejournal.com. Please check in and take a look since the group photo is already up on the blog. Also watch the Houston Home Journal for a massive publicity surge. (Just kidding – but we will have the photo and story in)
The blog address will not be published and is only for members of the group, unless somebody has out of town friends who might like to jump in.
Meetings will be on the first Saturday morning of each month, starting at 10 a.m.
The next meeting is on August 2, and will be a general discussion of the works of Jan Karon – so if you haven’t read one, check out one or all of The Mitford Series. We will also have a round-robin discussion of what other books everyone is reading and wants to recommend.
Many Thanks to Lynward Barrett of Landmark Realty for letting us use his convenient and very nice meeting facilities!
Below is a comment Charlotte posted on the subject "Off to a great start"
I am placing it here also because it is a great explanation about how to post comments.
If a comment has been left you will see a number indicating how many have been posted. Just click on that (if none have been left it will read leave a comment) and you will be able to read and post! If you have any questions just send us an email and we will do our best to help!

This is Charlotte. I used the Live Journal User option for commenting, and somebody else already had my first name. It's a simple form to fill out with your name and password. Once you do it, get off the internet and check your e-mail, because they'll want you to verify. Then you'll be ready to post comments.
My comment is that I really felt at home in our group today and it was great to talk about books with people who read books. Yay! I'll be writing a report with all the names and book titles and stuff tomorrow for our Historical Archives. CP
Information about the meeting and other tidbits will be posted soon!
Next meeting is Aug. 2 at 10 a.m.
- Mood:
cheerful
The first meeting for the book club has been scheduled for July 12 at 10 a.m. at the office of Landmark Realty.
The office is located at 2370 Houston Lake Road in Kathleen and is right across from Houston Lake Country Club.
Look forward to seeing everyone there!
